What is a Title I School wide program?

Title I funding originally began with the passage of ESEA and contains many components. These funds are provided to school districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children who are disadvantaged to support a variety of services. Their overall purpose is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and assessments.”

What does the Title I needs assessment of Lori Mann Carey School tell us, and what Schoolwide goals have developed as a result?

Our vision at Lori Mann Carey is to ensure all students, staff and families feel seen, heard, cared for, and connected. As a result of this, all students will exit Lori Mann Carey college, career, and/or community ready. Lori Mann Carey became a Title 1 school in 2003, each year since Lori Mann Carey continues to qualify for Title 1 based on the Needs Assessment. The assessment revealed an urgent need to shift focus from teaching to standards- based planning. The need for equitable practices to be addressed throughout the shift was clear. Therefore, a reboot in systems inclusive of examining ourselves with an anti-racist lens was initiated.

Lori Mann Carey is currently located on Madison’s south side. It serves a vibrant and diverse population. The Lori Mann Carey Elementary School community is committed to creating conditions in which our entire community can thrive. We strive to ensure our school community feels connected to a school environment that encourages individuality, responsibility, celebrates diversity, fosters a desire to learn new skills, talents, and reaches the abilities of each and everyone of our students in order to ensure college, career, and community readiness.

Our kindergarten through 3rd grade classes, average 18 students. The SAGE (Student Achievement Grant in Education) grant from the state keeps Kindergarten through 3rd grade class sizes at 15 or fewer. Grades 4-5th average 23.
Lori Mann Carey families also have the option of Dual Language Immersion instruction in kindergarten through 5th grade.
In the most recent year Lori Mann Carey is ranked as meeting expectations on the DPI report card.
Lori Mann Carey completes all standardized testing to determine the progress of students and practices are adjusted based on outcomes. Lori Mann Carey will continue to utilize these standardized methods to establish the baseline for growth.

How can parents and families be involved?

Parents are encouraged to get involved and join our FCA (Family Community Alliance). It meets every 3rd Tuesday in the LMC at Lori Mann Carey.
